BMS Training

The one and only BMS training school in the UK

On this course, you will gain an understanding of the role and typical components of a BMS, the fundamentals of control theory, and how a BMS can be used to optimise building performance.

What will I learn on the 3 day course?

Monday

Trainees will –
• Talk through and discuss what BMS is, where it is used and how it works.
• Discuss the most common items of plant that are controlled/monitored by a BMS
• Be shown how to determine whether the cabling to above devices is ELV, LV, screened etc.
• Be explained what the devices do, and for what purpose, and where they should be installed in the pipework, ductwork etc.
• Be shown various control cables, how to strip and prepare them for termination
• Be taught about pipework to understand how to identify the correct BMS device to connect

This session will be split between the classroom and the plant room. Trainees will have the opportunity to strip and prepare several cables that are used frequently in a BMS installation, including CAT5e, Belden and Def Standard
Day 1

Tuesday

Trainees will-
• Look through different panel drawings created for the plantroom downstairs.
• Understand what is expected of them, as the installer
• Understand what a safety circuit is and how it works
• Be taught to recognise which type of cable can be used for each control device
• Be shown, and have the opportunity to open different accessories that would be wired on a BMS installation
• Open up the BMS panel downstairs to learn about the internal devices and connections
• Walk through many different devices on a BMS installation to understand what they do, and where they should be installed

This session will be split between the classroom and the plant room.

Day 2

Wednesday

Trainees will-
• Be taught what an AHU is, how it works, and different variations of them
• Be shown the most common devices that are fitted to an AHU
• Understand the role of each device, and where it should be fitted
• Be briefed on the most common abbreviations used in the BMS industry
• Be expected to identify items in the plantroom, and give examples of cables that could be used to terminate them
• Be able to explain where different devices should be installed throughout an installation, and in an AHU

This session will be split between the classroom and the plant room. Trainees will be able to open an AHU to help their understanding of them. Installed devices are able to be opened, examined, and re-terminated to allow them to learn.

Day 3

Currently we are operating this as a non-accredited course. All delegates receive a certificate of attendance, with successful delegates receiving a BMS electrical training certificate

What will I learn on the safe isolation course?

1 day course

Trainees will learn–
• The Electricity at Work Regulations
• Voltage testing
• Equipment types and compliance
• Safe isolation procedure explained and demonstrated
• Practical safe isolation techniques explained and demonstrated

The course is part classroom and part workshop based.

In the classroom trainees will be taught –
• The dangers of electricity
• The effects of current on the body
• The Law – Electricity at Work regulations, pertinent to Safe Isolation
• Requirements of GS38 test equipment
• The correct, and safe procedure for testing circuits and panels, to identify if they are energised

Trainees will then be taken into the workshop and have the opportunity to test circuits and panels, to prove them to be isolated/energised. They will be taught how to isolate and lock off circuits to ensure they are safe to work. In our workshop, which is fitted out as a fully working plant room, we have the luxury of being able to simulate site conditions to aid our training. We will walk trainees through how to locally isolate a piece of plant, and prove it is safe to work on. We also have the ability, with the aid of our fully working BMS panel, to explain to trainees how to test if the panel is energised, and explain that some circuits remain energised, even when the panel isolator is switched off
